IRS Will Obtain Search Warrants to Obtain Emails Stored by ISP

On May 3, 2013, in Policy Statement 4-120, the IRS announced its policy to obtain search warrants in all cases when seeking from an internet service provider the content of email communications stored by the ISP.  The policy statement nevertheless noted that the IRS will not seek this information from an ISP in any civil administrative proceeding.
